Sports Law

Disputes involving athletes, clubs and federations, CAS and disciplinary proceedings.

Sports law resolves disputes between sports stakeholders within the framework of the general principles of sport and law. It covers the rights and obligations of athletes; the actions, duties and responsibilities of clubs, federations, coaches and those managing sporting life; the principle of fair play; and the rules by which sports judicial bodies resolve disputes procedurally and on the merits. The Code of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), with its procedural provisions and case law, and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code play an influential role in shaping sports law.

Sports arbitration

Under Article 59 of the Turkish Constitution, decisions of sports federations relating to the management and discipline of sporting activities may only be challenged through compulsory arbitration; the decisions of the arbitration board are final and no judicial authority may be applied to against them. It is therefore essential that applications before federations and arbitration boards are filed completely and within the short time limits set out in the relevant regulations.
